Apres le Deluge

If you look down the blog, you’ll find an earlier item showing pictures of wind-damaged greenhouses with the title’
“Apres le deluge, c’est nous.
That’s me playing with words, an uncontrolled pursuit of my over-heated brain. What had originally come to mind was: Après moi le deluge.
Deluge is absolutely the right word for the weather we had, but when the phase popped into mind, I wasn’t clear on its provenance and meaning. So I wiki’ed it.

The phrase “Après moi, le déluge” (“After me, the deluge") is attributed to the King of France Louis XV (1710-1774):French Revolution (1789-1799), which took place fifteen years after the king’s death and which cost the life of his grandson and successor, Louis XVI.
In such periods people in the ruling class follow the principle "Après nous le déluge" and each thinks only of himself, abandoning the public good to the mercy of blind chance.

Hmmm... interesting! At our village, after the rains, we think of each other.
And still, the non-farmers among us have jobs and occupations that have taken our energies away from the village in the days since the weekend windstorm. And the farmers have carried on regardless, without grumbling or missing a beat.
Osprey farmers dismantled the twisted metal frame and piled it neatly for removal. They won’t be re-erecting it this year. They’ll shift their plans and concentrate on growing later crops. When they move to their permanent location on the other side of the creek, they’ll build solid concrete foundations for a new greenhouse.
Do it well, do it properly later when it’s manageable.

The other farmers from Ohm, (oh, so many puns come to mind, unbidden ...Ohm, ohm on the range... Ohm sweet home... etc... Ohm, my goodness! time to stop!) have a different situation. They need a lot of greenhouse space for their tomatoes and peppers. The struts of rebar were too warped to keep, so the farmers removed the plastic and have replaced them all. Then they reinforced the walls with wood struts at more frequent intervals. More plastic will go on and the edges will be firmly held down. ( Not that we’re expecting another storm like that one! ... they’re not that usual)
Do it well, get right to it and make it properly.
