Hi Folks,
Please forgive my previous lapse in thinking I would write only about the garden. I can’t confine my enthusiasm. There’re way too many exciting things going on for me to stay so constrained.
In the Garden:
A large area is under our green thumb now, ready for more digging/weeding/dividing into plots. Many folks want to garden but can’t manage their own plot ... so we’re putting in a communal area for sharing. And not surprisingly, many of you also want to share seeds, fertilizer, tools, ideas, expertise, watering, and children.
The answer is YES! All we ask is that you eventually return stray children to the lost and found area.
Come on Saturday to garden, claim a plot, mislay your children, and stay for potluck! And again on Tuesdays ( tell us if you’re staying for dinner) Bring tools and gloves. Contact Julia Julia.Jongkind@gmail.com...head coach of the Garden Team
Our Common Houses. We have two.
Number One
The one we’re planning is hopping up and down on Chuck’s drawing board ...It has: a music room; cosy, yet gourmet kitchen; bounce-off-the-walls playroom for kids; teen room with features that the teens will plan themselves; craft room and carpentry workshop. And guest rooms and a suite for a nanny or caregiver.
Did I mention the dining room that’s adaptable for dancing or yoga or meetings .?
I forgot...meetings will be in the hot tub. And a laundry room so good you won’t want to have machines in your own home and can use the extra closet space for brewing beer. Hang on! There’ll be brewing in the Common House. Beverly will share her window-seat reading nook with you ... (and her book too, if I know her)
And the outdoor terrace has BBQ’s so deluxe (and chefs so creative) you’ll even be relishing the grilled tofu too...I promise!
Number Two
Our Summer 2010 Common House is really here .... now! Alan Carpenter and Joe’ are making a kitchen in the bunker silo* next to the bonfire area. We’re getting more tables and benches for community meals, camping, and all sorts of events. ( Kids’ art afternoon?) There’s a tenting lawn. And there’ll be places to store your camping gear so you don’t have to bring it each time. * Bunker Silo... the big building that now houses other peoples' RVs that will leave soon.
9/10 Duplex.
The foundations are done and guys are putting on the floor joists over the crawl space. First floor walls go up next. You haven’t forgotten that the single family side (of `1060 square feet) isn’t sold yet, have you?
Live here now
As I said before, I know a number of you are selling your houses this spring and headed towards buying one of our new Chuck-designed houses. Do you want to explore ways you can roost here while the houses are built, so you don’t have to rent /buy somewhere else first?
( Fly –on-the-wall news...don’t tell anyone! I sat in on a cohousing planning meeting this morning... the folks are thinking we’re doing so well with getting new buyers, that we could aim to start construction in October! Yes! And they’re smart thinkers, not just perennial optimists. )
I want to get a committee together of people ready to problem-solve ways of getting families living here in temporary accommodations.
Hands up! Write to me, please. Let’s do it!
Storage Space
.....is on its way in the big barn ... more secure
and in outer buildings ...less secure ( and cheaper)
Let me know if you want some.
Over and out

PS... Don’t forget to invite your best friends to come along with you.... Would they be good neighbours in our village too? If you like them, then we will too, don’t you think? And the more neighbours you bring, the faster and more economically we can build.
