What is the next step?

Ann has been sharing the lovely emails rolling in to her inbox today. We appreciate your positive words about the open house and your curiosity about what to do next so that you will eventually live here (by next year!).

Roughly, here are the steps from start to finish (be sure to contact us about the Getting it Built workshop March 20-21 and the Common House design workshop if you think you are probably going to live here):

1. Learn about cohousing and the Yarrow Ecovillage (visit us, read some books, read the blog, borrow the site plan book, come to a work party or playdate or community supper...contact annclement1@yahoo.ca to make some plans).

2. Request membership (We will share some information with you about the ecovillage's history and our consensus decision-making process; we'll ask you about your expectations with a meeting and a questionnaire and how you see yourself living here. There's a fee to indicate your commitment to the project.)

3. Buy a house. Homes 1 - 14 were/are being built through an evolving model of development, but Chuck Durrett assures us that homeowners can benefit from economies of scale if we build homes 15 - 26 together. Most cohousing communities who build all at once keep a list: once people purchase investment shares (which go towards the cost of your home), their names goes on a list in priority order. When it is time to choose homes, the list is used to determine who gets to pick first, second, etc....

(Steps two and three may happen simultaneously.)

4. Once all 26 homes are built and sold, we are willing to keep your name on a waiting list to be contacted when someone decides to sell his or her home.
