Dick Clegg, a local veterinarian and Barn Owl enthusiast, delighted us on Friday, by dropping off the nesting box he'd made for our concrete silo. He then surprised us by staying to install it.
Barn Owls are on the 'Species of Concern' list in BC. Dick reckons that there are about 1000 of them here in the Fraser Valley, and that there aren't many in the rest of Canada. We're making a valuable contribution in providing an additional nesting site for them.
The nesting box is now installed in the inside top of the silo, waiting for next January, when owls will begin their brood raising. Fingers crossed for their success!
