Timber frames are up!

Richtfest was by all accounts a great success! The sustainably harvested timbers were erected earlier in the week and were properly christened as the forest was thanked for it's role in providing the beautiful wood that will frame these new houses. Be sure to read the articles in The Chilliwack Times, The Chilliwack Progress and The Vancouver Province.

Cordwood Masonry

This is the first post in a series that will explain our building methods and plans for the first phase of our development, which will begin shortly. The first two buildings that we build will use a method called cordwood masonry. Cordwood masonry is a term used for a natural building method in which "cordwood" or short lengths pieces of debarked tree are laid up crosswise with masonry or cob mixtures to build a wall. The cordwood, thus, becomes infill for the walls, between posts in a timber frame structure.
